Fitting Words for a Trying Time.

"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

Abraham Lincoln, First Inaugural Address, Monday, March 4, 1861

A Prayer from Psalm 73

Lord God,

Whom have I in heaven but You?

There is nothing on earth I desire but You.

My flesh and my heart may fail,

But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Those who are far from You will perish;

You have cut off all who are unfaithful to You.

But as for me, the nearness of God is my good.

I have made the Lord God my refuge,

That I may tell of all Your works. (Psalm 73:25–28)

In Jesus' name I pray.

AMEN!

John Stott's Daily Prayer

The following prayer is a Prayer John Stott prayed every morning.

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may live this day in your presence and please you more and more.

Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.

Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life:

Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control

Holy, blessed and glorious trinity, three persons in one God, have mercy upon me.

Almighty God, Creator and sustainer of the universe, I worship you.

Lord Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord of the World, I worship you.

Holy Spirit, Sanctifier of the people of God, I worship you.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever, Amen.

A PRayer for the Tuesday after Easter

Lord God,

When raised your Son, Jesus, from the dead, you demonstrated your glory, you defeated death, and you brought to life, the Light of the World. Help me, to live in and by your light today. Fill my life with joy and peace no matter what my circumstances may be. Give me the confidence to trust you and the courage to speak your name wherever I may go, because no darkness can overcome your light. Guide me by the power of your Holy Spirit, who lives in me and intercedes on my behalf, through the name of your risen Son, Jesus, I pray.

Amen!
